by the way im 16 and i've had it for more than half my life.

    • ANSWER:
      Hi David L

Psorias may be connected with Vitamin D deficiency.

Here are some ideas for both an internal and an external approach.

Many people who find that their condition gets better when they spend plenty of time in the sun get relief in the winter by going to a tanning salon and using the UVB booth.

Others have found other ways to get UVB treatment at home without prescription such as buying UVB lights meant for reptiles kept as pets. Since your psoriasis is mostly on your extremities, that might be a good solution for you.

The Vitamin D Council is a good site to find out more about how much Vitamin D3 to take internally during the parts of the year when you don't get enough sunshine. They will also provide information about how to be properly tested to see whether you're Vitamin D deficient.

The combination of salt water and UVB (simulated beach!) seems to work especially well for some. Either regular cooking salt or epsom salts are effective when dissolved in a tub full of water.

Finally, while researching gallbladder and liver problems I came across studies which found that taking bile salts to aid digestion can help psoriasis. That would make sense from the standpoint that a diseased or sluggish liver can often manifest itself in various skin conditions.

      I hope that helps some!

      Good luck!

  2. QUESTION:
Do people with Epilepsy often have psoriasis?
Epilepsy-Epilepsy is a brain disorder in which a person has repeated seizures
Psoriasis-is a common skin condition that causes skin redness and irritation.
I've had psoriasis for 2 years and epilepsy for 7 years.

Both autoimmune system disorders. I have both and just wanted to know if they are related.

    ALSO:

I have internal itching on my right torso? If you know what that is, feel free to tell me.

    • ANSWER:
its is unlikely that both of them are related...coz one is affecting your CNS and the other ur muco- epithelium
But there is a chance of drug induced psoriasis with phenytoin, topiramate and valproate on long term use(ur r using them fot 7 years,na )
so consult ur neurologist and ask his opinion for a drug switch...

and about ur internal itching...i used to hear my patients telling such vague complaints..one common factor among them wer gluten hypersensitivity..so try to avoind gluten rich foods(google them) for awk and report back ur feelings...
      take care

  3. QUESTION:
What are my chances of inheriting lupus form my mom?
My mom only has the skin lupus, and not the kind that infects internal structures. I am also male (which I understand lessens your risk?). My father has no autoimmune diseases. I do have a few autoimmune disease however, which include hypothyroidism, and a small area of psoriasis on my leg.

Are there other autoimmune disease I should be concerned about down the road? I'm turning 24 in a few months, and again I am also male.

    • ANSWER:
Although anyone can get lupus, most estimates show that 9 out of 10 people who contract lupus are women. With it also being 3 times more likely to be found in African American women than white women

  4. QUESTION:
How can I get rid of acne without having to buy expensive products?
I wash my face every day and I have tried acne products. Are there any other ways to get rid of it? I am 20 years old.

    • ANSWER:
      Hi KC

Here are some real answers on skin conditions. Remedies at the bottom. Cleansing the body of toxins is the key. Especially a colon cleanse! Educate yourself on detoxifying the blood.

Judyth Reichenberg-Ullman N.D. - "What is your skin trying to tell you? Often the skin is a metaphor for deeper issues and a way for your body to send up a red flag to warn you that all is not well underneath. When our skin is unhealthy it is usually a reflection of the internal state of our bodies, and is often a sign of poor elimination of toxins and waste products. Most of us are embarrassed by skin problems such as rashes, rosacea, boils or acne, especially in places where others can see our imperfections. The skin is the body's first line of defense against the environment. It has to deal with the effects of weather, sun , cold, heat, dryness, humidity, scrapes, bumps, soaps, detergents, chemicals, perspiration and dirt of all kinds. It is a wonder that our skin stays healthy most of the time! We can help our skin deal with this onslaught by optimizing our general health and by protecting our skin from harsh environmental exposure. Western medicine generally treats skin eruptions with either antibiotics, cortisone, or antifungal preparations. These medicines may alleviate the skin problem temporarily, or occasionally for good, but do not address the source of the problem. Putting a lid on skin symptoms without getting to the root of the imbalance may even result in suppression, that means the imbalance may be driven deeper causing more serious health problems later without ever strengthening the underlying vital force of the person. Fortunately, naturopathic medicine offers a wide vareity of effective treatments for skin problems."

Judyth Reichenberg-Ullman N.D. - "Your skin is a reflection of how well your body is eliminating the toxins that build up on a daily basis. Chronic skin conditions such as acne, eczema and psoriasis stem from a combination of genetic factors, immune stress, dietary deficiencies or sensitivities, and the accumulation of toxins in the body. For our skin to be radiant and clear, it is very important that the other organs of elimination (kidneys, liver, lungs, and colon) are cleansing the body effectively. If not, the skin will be overtaxed, pores will become clogged, and eruptions of one sort or another will result. Here are a number of steps you can take to improve your body's overall elimination wtih specific emphasis on your skin."

Detoxification is a normal body process of eliminating or neutralizing toxins through the colon, liver, kidneys, lungs, lymph and skin. Juice Fasting is the world's most ancient and natural healing mechanism. Fasting triggers a truly wondrous cleansing process that reaches right down to each and every cell and tissue in the body.

      Natural Cures

      1. Fruits and Vegetables for Acne: Carrot & spinach, celery & watercress, grapefruit juices are all useful to combat acne.

      2. Unwholesome Foods: Acne, a prevalent problem among teen-aged boys would not be possible in our society if our foods were wholesome. A most sad and disgusting sight is the pus-filled pimples due to inner toxicity --- wastes trying desperately to escape through the face. This condition often turns a gentle face in the blossom of youth into a waste dump of pimples, pus and subsequent pock marks which can be prevented. The tons of acne medications and prescriptions sold annually act only on the effect of the harmful food, and not the cause of the disease, malnutrition. The traditional teenage meal, a grease burger, french fries and a milk shake or cola simply does not provide enough nourishment for anyone, let alone a boy going through puberty to adulthood. Our highly processed foods are devoid of hormones found in fresh fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts and seeds. Must do a colon cleanse to rid of all the toxins in the body, which eventually get into the blood and cause acne and all other diseases.

      3. Cabbage: Apply a lotion of freshly prepared cabbage juice preceded, if desired, by the application of leaves. The eating of cabbage leaves or juice is also helpful.

      4. Lemon Juice: Skin problems such as acne... will often respond to a treatment of lemon juice. For blackheads rub lemon juice over them each night.

      5. Black Walnut: Externally, Black Walnut is nearly a miracle worker in cases of ...acne, dandruff, boils, itch, shingles, ringworm--we could go on, but you can see that you can use Black Walnut whenever a skin disorder appears! The tincture is an excellent first-aid remedy for wounds.

      Best of health to you

  5. QUESTION:
Why are some people more susceptible to bacteria or fungi than others?
Explain why two individuals exposed to the same bacteria or fungi are not equally affected. Why are some people more susceptible than others? Explain.

    • ANSWER:
Everyone possesses a certain amount of natural flora and fauna: microorganisms that live on us and within us. They have no adverese reaction to us ordinarilly and in fact can be useful for preventing opportunistic pathogens from invading our shin or internal organs. There are factors that would allow for different reactions between two people. One of which is a varying level of the natural flora and fauna. Persistent use of anti-bacterial soap is one way that one persons normal, healthy bacteria can be diminished, thus opening the door for opportunistic infections.

Open wounds may be another factor. It does not necessarily have to be as severe as a cut, but people with certain skin disorders (e.g. psoriasis or eczema) may open doors in their skin to allow for introduction to the blood stream.

Our skin and mucous membranes are the two largest barriers against infection. Dry eyes and nasal passages also allow for easier introduction. This is why sickness is more prevalent among those who travel on airplanes: the air in the cabin dries out our mucosa, removing a significant barrier.

So, given these factors, it is easy to see why some get sick and some do not.

  6. QUESTION:
How long after you've been eating a natural diet does your dandruff go away?
I'm eating about 95% organic with the other 5% as being labeled "natural" without sugar, preservatives, ect. If you've also got a timeline that would be great as well since I'm a little moody due to lack of refined sugar.

    • ANSWER:
When switching to organic and natural foods, you need to allow your body a significant amount of time to fully recover from all the toxins you put in it over the course of your life time. They may be hiding out in your spinal fluid and fat cells even, so hopefully along with eating better food you are getting regular exercise. This way your body can completely flush out impurities and you can visibly see changes in your hair, skin and nails.

As for dandruff, most dandruff is caused by microorganisms that have adapted to surviving on sebum. Dandruff shampoos can kill this organism and get rid of your dandruff. If your dandruff is caused by psoriasis or eczema, however, you are right in changing your diet in addition to treating the external symptoms, as both psoriasis and eczema are your inflammatory systems' reactions to internal issues. If this is the case, I'd say it will be a gradual change over the course of a few months before you find complete relief of your symptoms. My son and I both have eczema, and though I still get it sometimes on my arms, it has disappeared for the most part in both of us since we switched to a completely organic or natural diet. If there has been no change after several months of eating right and using appropriate salves to treat your symptoms, I'd look at other environmental factors, such as water and air quality of where you are living. Some people, like me, are more sensitive to pollutants in the water and air than others seem to be. There are special shower heads you can install in your bathroom to filter out minerals, they work similarly as the tap water ones for kitchen sinks do. Make sure you are exercising regularly though, even if its just taking walks more often, it works wonders for your skin and body.

Edit: I forgot to mention that it could also be caused by an allergy or sensitivity to a certain food

  7. QUESTION:
How to completely eliminate the dandruff ?
I am trying to eradicate my dandruff in many ways, but its still persist in my hair. Do you have any idea?

    • ANSWER:
Dandruff is one of the most common ailments affecting the scalp. Dandruff is nothing but excessive scaling of dead cells of the skin of the scalp. As you are aware, body undergoes constant but gradual renewal every 24 hours. However, when it is much faster renewal of the skin, it becomes visible in the form of scales, which we call dandruff.
      Symptoms of dandruff:
Dandruff, per se, is not a disease but a symptom. Excessive and obvious scaling of skin which is visible in the form of white (grey), flaky substance is the most common symptom (or sign) of dandruff. It may often be associated with itching, oily skin, irritation or redness of underlying skin. It tends to be chronic (long lasting) as well as recurring.
Dandruff could be of two major types: a. Dry (flakes appear silvery and white) b. Moist. (where the flakes appear pale yellowish with unpleasant smell.)
      Causes of dandruff:
Dandruff results from rapid maturing (and hence shedding) of the cells every week, instead of every month. Excessive oil (sebum) production precipitates dandruff in many people. This over activity could result from more than one reason.
The causes, triggering factors and maintaining factors can be categorized as under:
      Internal causesExternal causes
Hormonal imbalanceInfection (Pityrosporum Ovale or Malassezia Globosa) (Debatable.)
Poor HealthExcessive use of hair sprays, gels
Allergic HypersensitiveImproper use of hair : coloring products, hot iron curls
Emotional StressCold weather, dry indoor heating
Excessive consumption of fat, starch, sugarInfrequent shampooing of hair or Inadequate rinsing or shampooing of hair
      Improper Nutrition Poor Hygiene
      Hereditary PredispositionExcessive junk food
Dandruff is often found to be is mostly seasonal. Some patients find it most severe during winter and mildest during summer.
Though Dandruff is called as Dry Scalp but the people with oily scalp tend to suffer the most.
      Diagnosis of dandruff:
While concluding the exact diagnosis of dandruff, your doctor often requires ruling out other underlying diseases, which often resemble present like dandruff: They are
      a. Seborrhoeic dermatitis b. Psoriasis c. Fungal infection
Your doctor will be able to evaluate your history and the exact diagnosis could be arrived at by a close clinical examination. No biopsy is required.
      Treatment of dandruff:
The challenge of treating dandruff lies in the successful control of its relapse. It is not very difficult to treat dandruff for once. However, it is not easy to treat dandruff forever!
The treatment for dandruff should aim at controlling the underlying causing factors as well as the symptoms.
      Conventional treatment:
The conventional treatment often treats the end result rather than the root cause of dandruff. Most commonly measures are use of
      a. Use of Anti-dandruff shampoo.
      b. Ketoconazole
      c. Antifungal shampoo
      d. Selenium sulphide (available as SELSUN LOTION)
      Homeopathic treatment:
Homeopathic treatment aims are treating dandruff in totality. In other words, it treats the underlying cause of dandruff (please check the causes as described above) and hence helps preventing recurrence of dandruff.
The medicines uses for dandruff are geared towards altering the activity of the scalp tissue and therefore slow down the multiplication of the cells of the scalp. Homeopathic medicines possibly depress the abnormal multiplication of cells of the scalp called ‘stratum corneum’. Homeopathic medicines are unique in the respect that they can act as immune-modulators and address underlying immunological parameters while treating dandruff. Homeopathic treatment is safe and very effective for dandruff, which is strongly recommended.

Why does my skin itch everytime I get out of the shower?
Everytime i get out the shower my skin is VERY itchy. And it will last until my skin is competly dry. Usully about 10 or 15 minutes. I used a store bought cream for extra dry skin, that i apply right when i get out and usully one other time through out the day, b/c i thought it was dry skin, but that doesnt help. I also use soap for sensative skin. Nothing is working. Any idea as to what might help, or what it is?

    • ANSWER:
      HI TJ

      It's an internal issue.

      Cause
Itch is caused by various germs or bacteria trying to clean the body through the pores of the skin (instead of through the kidneys and the bowels) resulting in formation of pustules or rashes accompanied by intense itching.

      Herbal Aids
1.General Instructions: For itch and other skin problems, use a fomentation over the irritated area made with chickweed tea and/or plantain, burdock root, Oregon grape root, and echinacea--covered with plastic. Or, bathe the area with the tea a number of times during the day. Chickweed or plantain ointment is an aid for small outbreaks. Drink a cup of the tea two or three times or more a day. To each cup of the tea you drink add three to six drops of tincture of lobelia.

A wonderful aid to relieve cases of dermatitis is found in the walnut family, using black walnut hulls or leaves or bark (Juglans nigra), English walnut (Juglans regia), or butternut (Juglans cinerea). Treat the skin malfunctions the same as above.

Take one ounce of powdered golden seal root and mix thoroughly with nine ounces of linseed oil. Use the medicinal linseed oil from the health food store or drug store; DO NOT use linseed oil from the paint store or hardware store--apply freely, externally. Use as an oral aid white poplar bark (Populus tremutoides--also known as quaking aspen), one cup three times a day.

For the most severe cases of skin diseases in the advanced stage, use a combination we have called Bone, Flesh and Cartilage combination, internally and externally. Repeat procedure. Make a tea of the following herbs: six parts oak bark, three parts marshmallow root, three parts mullein herb, two parts wormwood, one part lobelia, one part skullcap, six parts comfrey root, three parts walnut bark (or leaves) and three parts gravel root. Soak the combined herbs in distilled water (at the rate of one ounce of the combined herbs to the pint of distilled water) for four to six hours, simmer thirty minutes (do not boil), strain and then simmer the liquid down to one-half its volume. Example: One gallon of tea simmered down to two quarts of tea, which is called "concentrated" tea. Soak flannel, cotton, or any white material other than synthetic--never use synthetic--wrap fomentation (soaked cloth) around the malfunction area and cover with plastic or wax paper, leave on all night six days a week and for as many weeks as needed until relief appears. Then continue a week or two for severe cases. Drink one fourth cup of finished concentrated tea with three-fourths cup of distilled water three times or more each day.

2.Plantain and Yellow Dock: Make a strong tea of equal parts of plantain and yellow dock , and bathe the affected area frequently as a wash.

3.Itch Ointment: See formula using burdock root, olive oil and bee's wax.

4.Black Walnut: Black walnut tincture can be applied on itching skin. This works especially well if the irritation is due to a fungus or similar invasion. One ounce of powdered golden seal root mixed with nine ounces of pure, food-grade linseed oil (not paint store linseed oil) can be applied externally with good results. White poplar bark tea should be taken internally.

5.Poke: The skin is an indicator of toxicity in the body. Poke is a good remedy for skin problems. It is also good for "the itch" in cases of scabies. Anytime you have skin which doesn't eliminate properly along with vitiated blood, you can well use Poke. It is said to be a great eliminator of toxins out of the system. Usually the glands are not performing properly in these conditions so the herb works on both areas. It is often used in chronic eczema, syphilitic eruptions, psoriasis, varicose veins and leg ulcers.

6.Plantain: Plantain bruised, or juiced in a juicer, and placed over the sting or bite will generally bring relief within a short time. The pain and itch will cease and the swelling will leave.

      Best of health to you

      Cheers

      Hi ChemStump

  17. QUESTION:
What are the symptoms of Basil Cell Carcinoma?
I have a bump on my nose that my doctor thinks is growing and she says it might be basil cell carcinoma. I am looking for a dermatologist to consult with but am wondering if anyone out there knows about these things and also have you ever heard of the morhs (? spelling) treatment? Thank you for any help.

    • ANSWER:
      Symptoms of Basal Cell Carcinoma
The five most typical characteristics of basal cell carcinoma are quite different from each other. Frequently, two or more features are present in one tumor. In addition, basal cell carcinoma sometimes resembles non-cancerous skin conditions, such as psoriasis or eczema. Only a trained physician, usually a dermatologist, can diagnose this cancer.
It is advisable to learn the signs of basal cell carcinoma and examine the body regularly, as often as once a month, if at high risk. A full-length mirror and a hand-held mirror can be very useful for the less visible parts of the body. The five warning signs of basal cell carcinoma are:
•An open sore that bleeds, oozes or crusts, and remains open for three or more weeks. A persistent, non-healing sore is a very common early manifestation.
•A reddish patch or an irritated area, frequently occurring on the chest, shoulders, arms or legs. Sometimes the patch crusts. It may also itch or hurt. At other times, it persists with no noticeable discomfort.
•A smooth growth with an elevated, rolled border and an indentation in the center. As the growth slowly enlarges, tiny blood vessels may develop on the surface.
•A shiny bump (or nodule) that is pearly or translucent and is often pink, red or white. The bump can also be tan, black or brown, especially in dark-haired people, and can be confused with a mole.
•A scar-like area (white, yellow, or waxy in appearance) which often has poorly defined borders. The skin itself appears shiny or taut. Although a less frequent sign, it can indicate the presence of an aggressive tumor.

    • ANSWER:
      1. Cleansing Routine: A beauty must! Cleanse your skin twice daily (only once if your skin is dry) using a mild, natural, inexpensive cleanser designed for your skin type. Add a couple of drops essential oil of rose, spearmint, or orange to your cleanser to boost its cleaning effect and aromatic quality. Cleansing your skin is especially important before going to bed, because your body excretes toxins through your skin as you sleep. If facial pores are clogged with makeup and dirt, breakouts can occur. If you perspire a lot in your line of work or exercise heavily, then rinse off and massage your body with a coarse cloth or loofah before retiring to remove salt and dead-skin buildup. Your skin needs to breathe while you sleep!

      2. Exercise: Try to exercise outside, to help oxygenate your cells with fresh air and facilitate waste removal through your skin. Exercises such as walking, biking, in-line skating, and weight lifting improve cardiovascular fitness and muscular endurance, which translates into increased energy and a rosy complexion. If you live in a city, try to find a green space--a park or a greenway--in which to exercise. If city streets, with their attendant pollution, are your only outdoor option, exercising in a gym may be a better alternative.

      3. Sleep, Blissful Sleep: I don’t care what else you do to your skin, if you are sleep deprived your skin will look sallow, dull, tired, and saggy; with your puffy eyes, you will resemble a frog prince or princess. And of course, your energy level will be less than desirable. Sleep: It’s the best-kept skincare secret there is!

      4. Sunlight: Ten to fifteen minutes unprotected exposure to sunlight several times a week is essential to the health of your bones and skin. It helps your body absorb calcium, due to the skin’s ability to convert the sun’s rays into vitamin D. Sun exposure helps heal eczema, psoriasis, and acne, and energizes your body. Plus those warm rays just make you feel good all over. If your dermatologist advises you to avoid the sun entirely, other sources of vitamin D include egg yolks, fish liver oil, vitamin-D-supplemented soy or cow’s milk, organ meats, salmon, sardines, and herring.

      5. Water: What goes in must go out, and water helps move everything along. Impurities not disposed of in a timely manner via the internal organs of elimination (such as the kidneys, liver, lungs, and large intestine) will find an alternate exit, namely your skin, sometimes referred to as the “third kidney.” Pimples and rashes may develop as your body tries to unload its wastes through your skin. Eight to 12, 8-ounce glasses of pure water a day combined with a fibrous diet will help cleanse your body of toxins and keep your colon functioning as it should. Water also keeps your skin hydrated and moisturized, so drink up!

  20. QUESTION:
My legs especially thighs do itch a lot when I go for a walk or run in the morning. Any reason for that?
When I go for a walk in the morning, sometimes my legs especially my thighs do itch. Why is that?

    • ANSWER:
The condition that your describing is referred to as 'pruritus' which is itchy skin. There are many causes of such a condition and my suggestion is to contact your doctor and get a referral to a dermatologist. The most common condition is inflammation of the skin 'psoriasis' or 'dermatitis', both of which can be treated (not cured) by lotions and creams (i.e. E45).
However, internal itching can also indicate internal conditions often not associated, these can concern the liver or kidneys. This is why consultation with a doctor is necessary. Do not be concerned immediately, it is often less serious than first assumed. There is varicose veins, caused by relaxed and sometimes weak veins that present as itchy or heavy legs. As your condition seems to worsen post-exercise.
      Good Luck.

    • ANSWER:
      Hydroxychloroquine Sulphate

      How does it work?

Hydroxychloroquinine is used in the treatment of some auto-immune diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus. In these diseases the body's immune system is over-active and slightly defective. The body develops antibodies which attack and cause damage to its own cells. Damage can occur anywhere in the body, such as in the joints or cartilage as in the case of rheumatoid arthritis. As a result of the damage to the joints, reduced mobility and stiffness in the affected joints is experienced. Hydroxychloroquine is thought to act by interfering with the production and release of blood cells that are involved in the body's immune defence system. Hence the autoimmune response of the antibodies against its own body, is reduced and as result the amount of damage to the cells is minimized and prevented. As it has the potential to prevent progression of the disease, by limiting the damage caused, it is often referred to as a disease-modifying antirheumatic drug (DMARDS) and is commonly used very early in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. Hydroxychloroquine is also used in treating skin conditions that are caused or aggravated by sunlight.

      What is it used for?

      # Inflammatory disease of the joints
      # Long-term inflammation of skin and some internal organs (systemic lupus erythematosus) or related diseases e.g. scleroderma
      # Severe inflammatory diease of the joint that commonly occurs in children and adolescents (juvenile arthritis)

  22. QUESTION:
Does anyone have a good shampoo/conditioner to reduce Psorisis, or any other treatment for Psorisis?

    • ANSWER:
Hi - I read your post and inquiry, and I know that this is a difficult situation to live with. I know this personally and professionally. I have been working with psoriasis sufferers for a long time and I too have had my personal experiences with it. There is a good book I would like to recommend to you, its called Healing Psoriasis Naturally written by Dr. John Pagano. He used to refer patients to me when I had a wellness center (I no longer have that center). One of the best ways to work with your skin condition is by internal cleansing. He writes about how to do this. The skin is an organ of elimination. If you body is not eliminating properly, the skin will try to do it for you. Make sure your elimination functions are working. I also know that some of the worst foods that you can eat when you have this condition are white flour (bread, rolls, pastries, pasta, pizza dough) and anything with sugar. There is also a homeopathic remedy that I've heard is good - and completely safe - its sulfur (and also inexpensive - like about ). I hope this helps, all the best, Home Spa Lady

  23. QUESTION:
How does urine therapy work? I need practical solutions about how it works. How it is started.?
how does urine help heal the body? I really want to start using my urine to heal myself. How does it work? Someone should send me a mail or manual or anything that would get me started. My e-address is efiprince@yahoo.com

    • ANSWER:
Urine therapy entails using your own urine externally or internally as a way to promote or maintain good health. Sometimes when all else fails, AUT will turn a patient around. The first question that probably comes to mind is whether urine is a toxic substance and how a waste product already excreted from the body can be of any benefit for your health. Urine is NOT a toxic waste product, claim AUT practitioners. They cite that 95 per cent of urine is water, 2.5 per cent consists of urea and the remaining 2.5 per cent is a mixture of minerals, salt, hormones and enzymes.

Urea is an antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral agent that forms when the body balances its ratio of sodium chloride to water. Urea is often used to make ointments and lotions for its properties of reducing inflammation and ability to kill bacteria. It can be duplicated under laboratory conditions by dissolving calcium cyanamid in water, and then heated under high pressure to produce a compound of urea and calcium hydroxide.

Urine therapy has been touted as a remedy for a long list of ailments, including multiple sclerosis, colitis, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, cancer, hepatitis, hyperactivity, psoriasis, eczema, diabetes, herpes, mononucleosis, and adrenal failure. It is a commonly used treatment for snakebites and bee and jellyfish stings. Childhood illnesses such as acute flu, colds, viral infections, mumps, chicken pox, and allergies are also said to be alleviated by urine therapy. Urine is an ingredient in Pergonal, a fertility drug, and in pharmaceuticals used to dissolve blood clots.

Urine therapy can be applied internally or externally. For internal use, a sample of the morning's first urine is collected in a sterile container. Using a clean medicine dropper, the patient places an amount between one to ten drops under the tongue. Usually, one to five drops are applied on the first day; 5-10 drops on the second day; 5-10 drops on the morning of the third day, followed by 5-10 drops that evening.

Only fresh urine should be used when taken orally. The genital area should be washed before collecting a specimen. The best time to collect urine is first thing in the morning, and collecting the sample mid-stream. Individuals should refrain from eating for a half hour after ingesting the urine.

For external use, new or old urine can be applied. Old urine has a higher ammonia content that is more effective on skin such rashes as eczema and psoriasis. To store urine for later use, one should pour it into a dark glass bottle and close it tightly. Keep the bottle in a cool, dark place for at least four days.

A small amount is applied to the affected area with a cotton ball or pad. Continue massaging 5-10 applications to the area until it is soaked. Tape a clean, soaked pad to the area for several hours. The urine can also be sprayed onto the skin. For cosmetic purposes, fresh or 1-2 dayold urine can be lightly massaged into the skin or added in small amounts to moisturizing cream. Some practitioners recommend avoiding the use of soap or lotion after applying urine to the skin. Dryness can be alleviated with sesame oil.

  24. QUESTION:
can coconut oil increase hair growth and help with my eczema?
i have afro hair which breaks quite alot and is quite dry all the time. also, my skin is very dark and dry because of my eczema, so how can coconut oil help with all these things?
can it be coconut oil that is used for cooking?

    • ANSWER:
As if being the most delicious flavour, texture and smell wasn’t enough. I’ve recently discovered, that the humble coconut, is quite possibly one of the most powerful super foods around. This post could get very long…so I’ll dive into the bits of research I’ve found out so you can get the gist of what it’s all about and get purchasing/eating/smothering as soon as possible.
First things first, this isn’t just a body oil or hair care product. You can eat coconut oil. At room temperature, it’s a solid much like butter, when warmed in your hands or when cooking…it melts. We’ve just started using this, but plan to replace most of our oil/butter consumption with this…and it tastes AMAZING!! They recommend you consume between one and five tablespoons of oil a day. On toast it’s a dream, in Thai curry it’s ridiculous. But I like to literally ñom ñom teaspoonfulls of it throughout the day, straight up out of the jar. Sounds gross…I assure you, it’s the schnizzle. Thanks going out to Jenna Marbles
for putting me onto this ‘magical unicorn elixir’!

      WHAT DOES IT DO?
One of the most interesting properties it has, it that it contains Lauric Acid. Lauric Acid is found in breast milk…so, no need to explain how über rejuvenating that is. Without trying to sound too complicated or medical of like I actually know any of this myself, here’s a list of what I’ve found the benefits to be. Feel free to Google it yourselves, there’s a ton of videos on YouTube too backing up the research – and what interested me most – the amount of real people raving about it and reviewing it. Contrary to popular belief (apparently, not that I’ve ever heard anything bad about it) coconut oil was considered a “bad” fat because it is a saturated fat. However, coconut oil is a “good fat” and actually beneficial for the heart. It helps in preventing various heart problems including high cholesterol levels and high blood pressure.
      SMOTHER IT:
Rub it on your fingernails, on your face (I find as a night moisturiser it’s best, its not crazy oily, but takes a little while to sink in totally) best lip balm ever, I left the house yesterday with dry almost chapped lips, used it throughout the day, they were soft by the time I got home from work…SHAZZAM.  It reduces scarring, prevents stretch marks, heals burns/scrapes/scabs etc much faster, and literally erases bruises. I rubbed it on a mosquito bite yesterday and it instantly soothed it…barely noticeable today. My skin already looks plumper on my face, fine lines reduced, lovely squishy bouncy skin…and I only started using it last night…FOR REAL.
Best eyemakeup remover ever, and it actually conditions your eyelashes making them stronger and grow longer. Same for hair on your head (or wherever you want to grow thicker longer hair!) whack it on dry hair leave it for a few hours or overnight in a bandana or turban or whatever…wake up…and voilá – you’re the Timotei chick. Relieves dandruff, prevents lice, and cures (if not dramatically improves) psoriasis and eczema.
      EAT IT:
First thing I noticed like many others, is that it gives you an almost instant mad energy boost. Sort of like a coffee, but not jittery and wide eyed, just bouncy happy buzz…yeah baby! Did I already mention how freakishly delicious it is? It suppresses binge eating by levelling out your blood sugar, so you don’t go raiding the fridge and ruining your new year diet. It boosts your natural metabolism and actually makes you LOSE weight.
It sorts out your digestion, immune system, it’s anti-viral, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal (cures shit like athletes foot and yeast infections, stops you getting cold sores and all that).  It aids absorption of calcium and other vitamins and minerals into your body from other foods. Sorts out your internal organs…check this post out for the medical shizz >>

It’s a great tanning oil, and can help your skin build up better tolerance to the harmful rays…what else can I say?? Well probably lots but I’m even boring myself writing it all down. I’ll update the blog with more stuff I discover if it’s worthy of y’all knowing about it…
GO GET SOME! Available in most health food stores, or online at sites such asamazon
      , vit-shop
       etc.

  25. QUESTION:
My daughter has had acne since the beginning of the year and we cant get rid of it What should we do?
We have tried every toner and cream on the market...

    • ANSWER:
      Hi Kailee

Virgin coconut oil improves the performance of the digestive system that can make a person lose weight
In addition, Virgin coconut oil may also solve skin problems like acne, pimples, black heads, eczema, psoriasis, or as simple as dry skin. To learn more about the Virgin coconut oil benefits, read on the article:

Benefits of Virgin coconut oil for external health

      1. Virgin coconut oil and acne or pimples

Acne is common during the stage of adolescence due to some hormonal changes experienced in puberty. One of these hormonal changes is the abnormally excessive secretion of oil (sebum) by the sebaceous glands. When bacteria mix up with sebum, then there is acne eruption.
Virgin coconut oil contains medium chain fatty acids that boost the metabolic process in the body. Ingesting Virgin coconut oil can improve metabolism that enhances cell and hormonal functions. As a result of better digestion, there is regulated excretion of oil by the sebaceous glands.

Putting coco oil on your face also melts bacteria clogged up in the pores.

      2. For dry scalp

Healthy scalp would mean healthy hair. Lauric acid converted into monolaurin is one of the antimicrobial properties of Virgin coconut oil. This acid is also found as ingredient in soaps and shampoo. By applying coco oil, your scalp is kept moisturized and protected from fungi that cause dandruff.

      3. Virgin coconut oil for hair

Healthier and shinier hair is also one of the Virgin coconut oil benefits. To keep your hair from being dry and unmanageable, spread an ample amount of coco oil from the roots to the tip of damp hair. Do not put too much or your hair might get greasy.

      4. For skin
Many people experience dry skin. Untreated dry skin can cause premature wrinkling and ageing in the long run.

A solution to this is applying virgin Virgin coconut oil as alternative to your other body lotions. The usual lotion that you use primarily contains water that easily evaporates, thus, drying your skin. Virgin coconut oil prolongs the moisture on your skin making it smooth and soft the whole day.

To add to that, Virgin coconut oil also strengthens by holding your skin tissues together and protects the skin from the harmful UV rays of the sun. The antiseptic composition of Virgin coconut oil kills fungi and yeast that cause athlete’s foot, diaper rash, and candidiasis

      Eczema

Virgin coconut oil cure can also be true to eczema. Eczema, an inflammation of the epidermis, is caused by hereditary factors, allergens like dust, pets, or plant pollens, and irritants like smoke or solvents. As a result, a person experiences itching, flaking, dryness, or even bleeding of the skin. Moisturizers are very important treatment for eczema and Virgin coconut oil is best for lasting moisture for the skin. This same effect of coco oil also treats psoriasis.

Benefits of Virgin coconut oil for internal/systemic health

Maintaining a Virgin coconut oil diet is beneficial for your internal body system. Virgin coconut oil diet is done by changing your usual cooking oil with refined Virgin coconut oil and taking three to three and a half tablespoons of virgin Virgin coconut oil as supplement everyday.

The medium chain fatty acids (MCFAs) in Virgin coconut oil greatly contributes in boosting the digestive system that improve the performance of cells and hormonal secretion of glands. Also, Virgin coconut oil contains antimicrobial lipids, lauric acid, capric acid, and butyric acid that are helpful in fighting infections, yeast growth, and killing disease-causing bacteria.

  31. QUESTION:
Who in Canada sells and has information about Neem products and should you avoid if you'd like more kids?
I've been researching this amazing tree from India which seems too good to be true. One drawback (or advantage) is that it may act as a natural form of birth control in both males and females.

    • ANSWER:
Neem’s wide variety of reported benefits include use in the treatment of fever, gastrointestinal disease, dermatologic (skin) disorders, immune dysfunction, respiratory disease, parasites, inflammatory conditions, and infections by some bacteria, fungi, and viruses. Some components have been shown to have antimalarial properties. The seeds contain an insecticidal substance that is EPA approved for use on nonfood crops. Some viral diseases have been treated by components of neem. It may inhibit the multiplication of viruses and prevent them from entering and infecting cells. Some of the diseases that have reportedly been relieved include colds, flu, and conditions caused by herpes, such as chickenpox and shingles. Neem appears to be an appropriate treatment for numerous dermatologic indications. Its anti-inflammatory and pain relieving activity make it potentially useful against psoriasis, eczema, acne, dermatitis, and an assortment of fungal conditions. The neem leaf has been shown to have activity that suppresses the fungi that cause athlete’s foot, ringworm, and Candida. Seed oil and aqueous leaf extracts have been used to treat jock itch, another fungal infection. The oil and leaf extract may be applied externally in the form of lotions and soaps. Leaf preparations may also be used internally for the detoxification properties. Poultices made from the leaf have antiseptic and astringent properties that treat wounds and boils. Both internal and external parasites may be sensitive to the effects of neem. External parasites, such as lice and mites, are often treated in India with aqueous extracts of neem leaves. A medical research center in Nagercoil, India, found that a combination of neem and turmeric cured 97% of patients with scabies within 3–15 days of treatment. Teas are used against internal parasites, including intestinal worms. Perhaps one of the most interesting claims for neem is for the prevention and treatment of malaria. Leaf extracts are said to have the same effectiveness as quinine and chloroquine, the conventional medications that are used. Some studies show that even chloroquine-resistant strains of malaria are sensitive to neem, particularly a component called Irodin A. The recommended preventative measure is to chew and consume the leaves on a daily basis. Twigs and leaves of the neem tree may be used for oral hygiene, and neem bark extracts used in toothpastes and mouthwashes are active against gingivitis. Ayurveda holds that neem has healthful properties for teeth and gum tissue. Ayurvedic tradition holds that neem bark improves resistance to disease. It appears that certain carbohydrates contained in the bark do indeed stimulate the production of antibodies. One source recommends a cyclical use of neem to strengthen the immune system in order to lower the incidence of infections, particularly in people who have conditions that compromise the immune system. The long history of the use of neem in India appears to show that there is a low incidence of side effects when used appropriately. Infants have suffered severe sequelae, and even death as a result of internal use of neem. Avoid using neem products on children.

You are the best doctor to heal yourself. Now you know this, here are some real answers on skin conditions.

We can help our skin deal with this onslaught by optimizing our general health and by protecting our skin from harsh environmental exposure. Western medicine generally treats skin eruptions with either antibiotics, cortisone, or antifungal preparations. Putting a lid on skin symptoms without getting to the root of the imbalance may even result in suppression, that means the imbalance may be driven deeper causing more serious health problems later without ever strengthening the underlying vital force of the person. 34. QUESTION:
Is there such thing as Extra Virgin Coconut Oil?
I read on an article online that there is no such thing as EXTRA virign coconut oil and it is just a marketing scam to have one believe that it is better than Virgin Coconut Oil. Thank you!

    • ANSWER:
extra virgin coconut oil is just the coconut oil, it's not refined. coconut oil is very very good for you. in my country [philippines] they make it from fresh coconuts.

Health benefits of coconut oil include the following:

Hair Care: Coconut oil is one of the best natural nutrition for hair. It helps in healthy growth of hair providing them a shinny complexion. Regular massage of the head with coconut oil ensures that your scalp is free of dandruff, lice, and lice eggs, even if your scalp is dry. Coconut oil is extensively used in the Indian sub-continent for hair care. It is an excellent conditioner and helps in the re-growth of damaged air. It also provides the essential proteins required for nourishing damaged hair. It is therefore used as hair care oil and used in manufacturing various conditioners, and dandruff relief creams. Coconut oil is normally applied topically for hair care.

Stress Relief: Coconut oil is very soothing and hence it helps in removing stress. Applying coconut oil to the head followed with a gentle massage helps in removing mental fatigue.

Skin Care: Coconut oil is excellent massage oil for the skin as well. It acts as an effective moisturizer on all types of skins including dry skin. The benefit of coconut oil on the skin is comparable to that of mineral oil. Further, unlike mineral oil, there is no chance of having any adverse side effects on the skin with the application of coconut oil. Coconut oil therefore is a safe solution for preventing dryness and flaking of skin. It also delays wrinkles, and sagging of skin which normally become prominent with age. Coconut oil also helps in treating various skin problems including psoriasis, dermatitis, eczema and other skin infections. Therefore coconut oil forms the basic ingredient of various body care products such as soaps, lotions, creams, etc., used for skin care.

Premature Aging: Coconut oil helps in preventing premature aging and degenerative diseases due to its antioxidant properties.
Heart Diseases: There is a misconception spread among many people that coconut oil is not good for the heart. This is because it contains a large quantity of saturated fats. However, coconut oil is beneficial for the heart. It contains about 50% lauric acid, which helps in preventing various heart problems including high cholesterol levels and high blood pressure. The saturated fats present in coconut oil are not harmful as it happens in case of other vegetables oils. It does not lead to increase in LDL levels. It also reduces the incidence of injury in arteries and therefore helps in preventing atherosclerosis.

Weight Loss: Coconut oil is very useful in reducing weight. It contains short and medium-chain fatty acids that help in taking off excessive weight. It is also easy to digest and it helps in healthy functioning of the thyroid and enzymes systems. Further, it increases the body metabolism by removing stress on pancreases, thereby burning out more energy and helping obese and overweight people reduce their weight. Hence, people living in tropical coastal areas, who eat coconut oil daily as their primary cooking oil, are normally not fat, obese or overweight.

Pancreatitis: Coconut oil is also believed to be useful in treating pancreatitis.

Digestion: Internal use of coconut oil occurs primarily as cooking oil. Coconut oil helps in improving the digestive system and thus prevents various stomach and digestion related problems including irritable bowel syndrome. The saturated fats present in coconut oil have anti microbial properties and help in dealing with various bacteria, fungi, parasites, etc., that cause indigestion. Coconut oil also helps in absorption of other nutrients such as vitamins, minerals and amino acids.

Immunity: Coconut oil is also good for the immune system. It strengthens the immune system as it contains antimicrobial lipids, lauric acid, capric acid and caprylic acid which have antifungal, antibacterial and antiviral properties. The human body converts lauric acid into monolaurin which is claimed to help in dealing with viruses and bacteria causing diseases such as herpes, influenza, cytomegalovirus, and even HIV. It helps in fighting harmful bacteria such as listeria monocytogenes and heliobacter pylori, and harmful protozoa such as giardia lamblia.

Healing: When applied on infections, it forms a chemical layer which protects the infected body part from external dust, air, fungi, bacteria and virus. Coconut oil is most effective on bruises as it speeds up the healing process by repairing damaged tissues.

Infections: Coconut oil is very effective against a variety of infections due to its antifungal, antiviral, and antibacterial properties. According to the Coconut Research Center, coconut oil kills viruses that cause influenza, measles, hepatitis, herpes, SARS, etc. It also kills bacteria that cause ulcers, throat infections, urinary tract infections, pneumo

  35. QUESTION:
What is the best remedy (herbal or otherwise) for psorias around the eyes?

and by psorias, i mean psoriasis. thanks!

    • ANSWER:
Psoriasis: A chronic skin condition, psoriasis presents as an overproduction of skin cells..most commonly on the elbows, knees and scalp where dry and scaly patches can be seen. Homeopathy has been used successfully to treat this condition but it can take a long time to clear as the sufferer will often have had it for a long time.

Psoriasis has been successfully treated and managed by Homeopathic remedies.

Psoriasis requires detailed specific prescribing of the "right" homeopathic remedy.

Below are only some of the remedies that can be prescribed, please note how important the individual symptom picture is. Only when all symptoms, aggravation or amelioration are taken into consideration can a specific homeopathic remedy be selected.

A further consideration is given to the potency of the remedy.

Arsenicum album - Psoriasis with itching and burning, and it is worse for cold and scratching. The skin is very rough, dry and scaly.

Arsenicum iodatum - Dry, scaly, itchy skin with scales that peel off easily, leaving the raw surface exposed. This remedy often suits emaciated and elderly women.

Berberis aquifolium - Pimply, rough and scaly skin with eruptions appearing on the scalp extending to the face and neck.

  36. QUESTION:
How do you know you have psoriasis?

    • ANSWER:
      Hey,
I have it too. I know from my doctors that psoriasis is an auto immune disease of the skin. Your immune is making cells that fight off your skin cells. Sometimes, (like in my case) this can be a sign of a much bigger issue with your immune system. You may want to check with a internal medicine doctor for test to see how to stop the issue. You can get information on this by going on-line to AUTO IMMUNE DISEASES. Hope all goes well for you.

  37. QUESTION:
The BEST moisturizer for extremely dry skin?
I have insanely dry skin. I can put straight up olive oil, baby oil, AND vaseline on my face (together!) and it will still be dry and flaky in a few hours. I'm at a loss. What can I do to moisturize my skin? I'm thinking about using Vitamin E oil, but I'm not too hopeful.

    • ANSWER:
You should be using something with glycerin, which helps your skin retain moisture. I use Neutrogena Norwegian Formula on my hands. It's expensive, but a little goes a long way. It's almost pure glycerin. Be sure to use it on slightly damp skin - it works much better that way.

You might try taking shorter, cooler showers if you aren't already. Moisturize your skin while it's still slightly damp (but not soaking wet). Aveeno has some nice "skin-soothing" options. Eucerin is supposed to be good for extremely dry skin. Unscented is generally less irritating than scented. My skin isn't that dry, I just know what works for me.

You should also be taking supplements like fish oil or DHA. If none of this works, see a dermatologist. Hopefully your skin is just dry and you don't have a skin disease like psoriasis or an internal problem like kidney disease (that really makes you itch - I speak from experience).

P.S. I would NOT suggest a petroleum product like vaseline, because petroleum isn't really that healthy. A lot of oils just stay on the surface of your skin and make it greasy but not really moisturized.

  41. QUESTION:
Why do some people finger nails look like the texture of clam shells?

    • ANSWER:
The eyes have been called the windows to the soul. But your fingernails can be an excellent barometer of your physical health. From little white lines to big dark streaks, your fingernails may be trying to tell you something.

"Deficiencies in one's diet or systemic diseases or even medicines that are used to treat a problem can result in defects in the nail," says Dr. Jacquelyn Garrett, a Christian Hospital dermatologist.

Those little white lines are the most common defect. Those are generally considered harmless.

"Isolated white lines on the nail can be just a result of trauma. But the white appearance of the entire nail can be more of a signifying result of an internal disease such as anemia once again or a fungal infection locally, aids can even result in changes in the nail color," says Dr. Garrett.

A concave or spoon shaped nail is reason for concern. That can also mean low iron levels in the blood or anemia.

"That's a readily treatable problem by analyzing their blood and seeing what the blood counts are and remedying it with iron supplements."

A half-white and half-pink or half-brownish nail can mean kidney or liver disease. People with the skin disease psoriasis may see a thickening or pitting of their nails. And brown or black streaks not caused by trauma are always cause for concern.

"Brown and black streaks in the nail, that could be indicative of malignant melanoma and that is very serious," says Dr. Garrett.

Usually after the health problem has been addressed, the nails will go back to normal.

  44. QUESTION:
Can stress make Parkinson disease worse?
I'm talking about stuff like stress at work or school or home. Stuff like that.

    • ANSWER:
YES - no question about it.

Stress can not only exacerbate symptoms of PD such as tremor - I see it all the time with my husband - it is actually thought to be one of the environmental triggers of the disease. I realize that most of the discussions focus on the chemicals but as you can see from the list of stress symptoms below, stress can cause internal chemical changes as well as introduce outside influences.

If you look at some stress symptoms you will see an overlap with Parkinson's symptoms. This is not to suggest that the symptoms have the same cause but rather that they share certain motion and non-motor type symptoms.

      Common symptoms of stress
Obesity or over-eating - Not common with PD
Increased or excessive alcohol consumption - Not common to PD
Loss of appetite or anorexia - Common as PD progresses but for different reasons usually
Increased smoking - Not common to PD (there is a positive nicotine connection)
Increased coffee consumption - Not common to PD (There is a positive caffeine connection)
Substance abuse - Not common to PD
Inability to concentrate - Difficulty multitasking and slower response time in PD
Increased and/or suppressed anger Sometimes - mostly mood and personality changes
Loss of sense of humor A no-no for PD - A sense of humor is important
Paranoia Delusions are often a medication side effect
Inability to cope If you had PD, you might feel this way at times
Inability to focus on one task There are cognitive issues in PD
Excessive emotion Inability to move facial muscles to express felt emotions
Lack of interest except in work Apathy and depression are common symptoms of PD
Permanently tired Excessive fatigue is a PD symptom + a medication side effect
Decreased libido Decreased libido and ED are PD symptoms
Nail biting Not a PD symptom
Chest Pain Not a common PD symptom
Migraines or tension headaches Not often reported in PD
Indigestion There are slowed motility issues in PD
Nausea A medication side effect in PD
Constipation or Diarrhea Constipation is a common symptom of PD
Flatulence Depends upon diet for constipation
Tremor, shaking, twitches Tremors begin unilaterally in PD
Rheumatoid arthritis Not common to PD although eventually joints may feel like it
Eczema/psoriasis PD has its similar form of skin problems
Increased sweating An often reported symptom of PD
Baldness or hair loss Not reported as a PD symptom
Poor circulation/cold extremeties Sometimes reported in PD
Infertility No reports of this for PD
Menstrual infertility/irregularity Estrogen is thought to be neuroprotective
Asthma attacks Breathing issues as disease progresses
Neck and back pain A precursor PD symptom - more common in women
Muscle cramps and spasms Very common in PD - an early symptom

Take a look at this Science Daily article about stress and PD: "Stress Takes Its Toll in Parkinson's Disease" In it one of our favorite PD researchers, James Surmeier is quoted.
      http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2010/11/101110131202.htm

Emotional stress can also cause heart attacks and be a factor in other diseases.

One of the reasons that a smile and a sense of humor are encouraged among PD patients and their families is to reduce the stress factor. Laughter promotes endorphins which are the feel-good chemicals. Endorphins allow the body and mind to function at a more efficient and healthier level (if not abused)

  45. QUESTION:
    What is this disease/condition called?
I have no idea how to spell it.

My dad wanted to know what it is about since my grandmother apparently has it. She has lost some of her hair, she is really stressed out as well, and something to do with the immune system.

It's pronounced "Soar-i-sis-sis", something like that.

I thought maybe it was Psoriasis, but is the P silent?

Also it speaks of a skin condition but I don't think my grandmother has things like that, I just know of hair loss.

  46. QUESTION:
What kind of pimples are these?
I had a pimple on next to my lip which was a skin colored bump, not red, which i get in clusters on my chin and jawline. Also, when i put pressure on them, a coil of thick puss comes out. When i popped this particular pimple, it got really large and then a few days later, I now have a red open sore that leaks clear fluid. Around the edges is slightly purple/brown. And the skin surrounding it is brownish/redish, scaly and dry. I'm guessing its like a regular cut now, but how can i help it heal w/o scarring? and how long with it take for a sore like this to heal? what are the best methods to make it heal in a short time span?
I drink lots of water and i eat a lot of fruits and vegetables too. i take really good care of my body, but i still have breakouts. how long with it take my sore to heal? what can i do to speed it along in the meantime?
Also, the sore is flat and red now (the pimple is no longer present). So its actually more like a scrape. Any suggestions?
